


The Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jaguar F-Pace also lose about half of their sales and are now outsold by the BMW X4 (+36%) and Alfa Romeo Stelvio (-16%). The Genesis GV70 lands at #32, outselling the Mercedes-Benz GLB and Infiniti QX50, both losing about half of their sales. The Lincoln Corsair is also pretty stable at -2%, outselling the Cadillac XT5 which is down by 43% and the Porsche Macan which is down 25%. The Audi Q5 and Lexus NX both drop 30% and the Acura RDX shows a 32% decline and now feels the Volvo XC60 (-1%) breathing down its neck. The Tesla Model Y sells more than triple the volume of the next best luxury crossover Mercedes-Benz GLC which is up 9%, distancing the BMW X3, down 7%. Until the new versions arrive, the GLB will offer 220 hp and start under 40,000. Boxy styling also reminds us on the super-luxurious full-size SUV. The 2022 Mercedes GLB will be more capable for off-road drive. Luxury crossovers make up 19.9% of the segment in Q1 of 2022, up from 17.4% in the same period of 2021. The compact crossover will compete against the BMW iX3 and Audi Q4 E-Tron. The luxury part of the segment outperforms the mainstream compact crossovers with sales down 1%. The Audi Q4 hasn’t yet started customer deliveries. The Volkswagen ID.4 is a little further behind at #36, while the Hyundai Nexo FCEV remains a niche player in 44 th place, despite more than doubling its sales. In contrast, the Jeep Cherokee (-73%) and Buick Envision (-61%) are struggling.Īmong the Model Y’s biggest rivals, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is up 2% in 26 th place overall, followed closely by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Its smaller sibling Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is also up significantly at +152%. The Kia Sportage, in the process of being replaced by a new generation, is down 27%, while the Mitsubishi Outlander more than triples its sales as deliveries of the new generation have now found their stride. The GMC Terrain (+47%) and Jeep Compass (+22%) gain share and leapfrog the Chevrolet Blazer (-2%) and Volkswagen Tiguan (-33%). The latter’s sibling Ford Bronco Sport is up to 11 th place, just behind the Subaru Outback and Forester, both of which losing share of the class. Thanks to the new generation, the Hyundai Tucson manages to grow its sales by 20% and it’s closing in on the Ford Escape, down 3%. Sales of the Nissan Rogue are cut in half as the nameplate drops to 6 th place, outsold by the Mazda CX-5 which grows its sales by 24%. The Tesla Model Y follows another 1,000 deliveries behind thanks to a 64% jump in deliveries. The battle for 2 nd place is heating up, with the Honda CR-V down 38%, just 2,500 deliveries ahead of the Chevrolet Equinox, down 11%. The Toyota RAV4 stays on top of the ranking and even improves its share of the class to 12.6% with sales down 11%. That means the largest segment in the US grows its share of the US passenger car market stable to 24.1%, at a volume of 800,000 deliveries, up from 23.5% last year. Sales of compact crossovers in the US are down 13% in the first quarter of 2022, beating the overall market which is down 16%.
